A Better Belize

A relief fund effort to help Woodcrest Christian Mission's partners in Belize.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

The Woodcrest Christian Mission’s department has set up a special relief fund. All donations will be distributed to Belize ministry partners for help with financial needs. Recommended donations range from $5 to $100 and will provide financial support for the following items:

Water bottles, daily food, reopening business, paying mortgages, paying employees, flood  damage repair, education fees, and much more.

Please note there is no username or password needed to make a donation. Also select “missions” in the account drop down when asked where you would like Woodcrest Christian to apply your donation.
*Be sure to specify a students name, to have your donation count in the friendly class competition.

HURRICANES

This hurricane season Belize has been hit by three category 4 storms.

GATHERING LIMIT

With only two ventilators, the Belizean government has required the nation to shut down to prevent a greater spread of the COVID-19 virus. All gatherings over 10 people are subject to jail time and fines. This includes schools, churches, and even family gatherings.

STUDENTS

One of the biggest hits from COVID-19 has been the impact on education. One month’s education only costs $5 which many families cannot afford. Without the technological resources, and having government regulations the country has not been able to easily pivot.

Our friends in Belize need our help.

COMPOUNDING CATASTROPHES

Over the years Woodcrest Christian has been taking high school students into Belize to serve and to share the Gospel. Due to Covid-19 all 2020 missions trips were canceled, and no teams travelled into Belize.

Since COVID-19, Belize has seen great challenges. As a highly tourist dependent economy,  global travel restrictions have greatly inhibited the Belizean economy.  Additionally, the country has only two ventilators, prompting complete a shut down as the solution for case prevention. Airports, churches, and schools are amongst the places shut down. In one school the local Pastor with whom Woodcrest Christian partners with, has seen a decrease from 300 students attending class, to only 3. This is largely due to the financial need, but also the lack of access to internet and the ability to pivot towards online learning. Restrictions in Belize enforce that any gathering larger than 10 are subject to jail time and fines. These gatherings include church, work environments, weddings, baby showers, just to name a few. Most recently a few local pastors were arrested and taken to jail for holding church services.

On top of such recent hardship Belize is seeing its third category 4 storm before Thanksgiving. Streets have seen waters as high as 40ft, and homes and churches have been flooded and destroyed after complete submersion from these storms.

Although things are different this year, Woodcrest Christian still has a heart wanting serve and support those we have built relationships with through the years in any way possible.

Since traveling to Belize is not an option, donating money is the best possible solution to help those suffering from the catastrophe of COVID-19, and an unprecedented hurricane season.

If your heart breaks as much as our does, we hope you would partner with us in loving on Belize to any means possible.
